AI Untuk Rakyat, and a Kahoot to Go With It

AI Sharing #5 ran on 4 January 2025, introducing AI Untuk Rakyat - the government-backed online course that teaches AI basics, free to every Malaysian.

We ran it as a live session with a Kahoot quiz called AI for Everyone, which is why the photo from this one is a leaderboard rather than a slide.

The quiz was not decoration. A free national course has an obvious problem: plenty of people sign up and nobody finishes. Going through the basics together, with a bit of competition, gets people past the first hour where most self-paced learning quietly stops.

The response was better than we expected, and it says something worth noting. There is a real appetite for AI literacy in Malaysia that has nothing to do with buying a course. People want to understand what this thing is. A free national programme is a good front door, and it works better with company.
