Modules 3 and 4: Building Your Own AI Assistant

Module 3 - Basic GPTs ran on 26 December 2024, and Module 4 - Extending GPTs followed for Group 3 on 9 January 2025.

Module 3 is where people build their first Custom GPT. Beginners with no coding background, building a working tool in one session. That sentence has become unremarkable, which is worth pausing on - two years ago it would not have been true.

Module 4 is where it gets interesting. A Custom GPT on its own is clever but sealed off. Connect it to external systems and it can look things up, write to somewhere, act on data that changed after you built it. That is the step from a smart assistant to something that participates in your actual workflow.

The gap between the two modules is the gap between a tool that knows what you told it and one that knows what is true today.

Most people find Module 3 satisfying and Module 4 slightly alarming, in a good way. The second one is when they start thinking about what else could be connected.

This is the middle of the AI Innovator Program, and the point where most people stop asking what AI is for.
