Chatbots That Talk Like You
Two chatbots can hold the same information and get very different results, because people respond to how something speaks, not only to what it knows.
Replika and Character.AI built whole products on that idea. The character comes first, the conversation follows, and users stay because talking to it feels like talking to someone rather than querying a database.
The business version of this is less dramatic and more useful. If your company is warm and plain-spoken, a bot that replies in stiff corporate paragraphs will feel like a different company answering the door. Give it your tone, your vocabulary, even the phrases your team actually uses, and the conversation stops feeling like a form.
Getting there is mostly writing. In a Custom GPT, the instructions are where the personality lives: how formal to be, what to do when it is unsure, which words to avoid. We usually suggest writing three or four sample answers by hand first, in the voice you want, then telling the bot to match them.
Building this is one of the first things we do in the AI Innovator Program, in a small enough group that people can test each other’s bots.
